Teach Them to Be Stewards

Updated: Sep 24, 2018

Last night, our three year old walked up to me with this fistful of coupons and some cash that she had found on my nightstand. She said, "Mommy, we need to take these to Walmart."

This made me stop and think.

You see, when we shop at Walmart, I often use the self checkout. I do this because our three year old likes to scan our items. It's her favorite part of shopping! Not only is she allowed to scan our items, she also scans our coupons, inserts the cash to pay, and puts the change back in my wallet.

As I thought, I realized that simply by involving our toddler, I was teaching her about finances. I was teaching her about paying for our items. I was teaching her about the exchange of coupons and cash.

Now, at three, she doesn't really understand all the details of this transaction, but we are setting a FOUNDATION.

I have a message for all of you matter your child's age, involve them in your finances! It is our job to TEACH our children about being good stewards of God's blessings and what a better way to do that then by showing them!
